    0

With so many 90s kids having their own kids, we thought it would be fun to look back at names inspired by this generation. Thanks to pop culture, television, music, and more, these monikers were at the forefront of our minds even if they weren’t as popular in classroom. So, here are 10 awesome 90s nostalgic baby names sure to take you on a trip down memory lane.

    Girls

    1. Alex – If you watched Walker Texas Ranger, you’ve seen Prosecutor Alex Cahill make more $ than the romantic lead while she rocked ultimate 90s style. And, if you haven’t, you may have heard of a certain teen with super powers – Alex Mack. Either way, Alex is the perfect name for a girl not afraid of dresses or dirt.
    2. Clarissa – Prepare to have one talky toddler “explain it all” if you go with this classic and classy sounding 90s shout out.
    3. Daria – If sarcasm is your first language, using Daria as your baby name will be true to your roots. It’s older meaning is powerful and Persian. Easy to spell and pronounce, yet not over used, with a strong start and smooth, feminine finish this name may hit a sweet spot.
    4. Kimberly – I mean, she’s the pink Power Ranger – an icon of girl power and 90s-ness, complete with strong scrunchie game and mad roller blade skill.
    5. Michelle – This name may be French in origin, but to many of us it’s meaning will always be Full House rooted. This is the feminine version of Michael if you want to honor one in your family.

    Boys

    1. Arnold – We all know Hey Arnold, but what about the one on the Magic School Bus? They might not be the coolest of cool, but Arnie is sure to be as sweet and unique as his namesakes.
    2. Chandler – The most sarcastic of all the friends, Chandler has recently grown in popularity for girls and there are less little Chandler boys, but it’s still equal parts charming and cool.
    3. Jack – The 90s was arguably ruled by the timeless name Jack. It was an era where Jack Skellington made his debut and Jack Dawson stole millions of hearts, to name only a couple.
    4. Nick – Whether it’s your fave Backstreet Boy, Nick Cannon, or Nickelodeon, Nick is in many ways the epitome of 90s.
    5. Tommy – Tommy Pickles of Rugrats and Tommy the green Power Ranger give this name a double dose of adorable.

There are dozens more! What is your favorite 90s name?

    Paula Billingsley
Originally from Columbia, Paula has also lived in NC, Florida, Alaska, and the UK before returning, after her husband’s deployment, to start USC School of Law. After passing the bar, working with education nonprofits, and going back for her Masters in English, she’s set aside being an active attorney for now to focus on her health, writing, and raising her baby girl, Evy. Paula knows life does not usually go as expected, like being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and sometimes it goes better, like eloping or adopting her best book review buddy, Evy! She binges on good tv, good books, good chocolate, good tea, and good conversation. She’s also a fan of winning, whether at board games or yoga. At home, she enjoys making art, music, stories, and tasty food with her family including two wild puppies, Poppy and Petra. Out and about, she enjoys being involved in theatre and music, like at Town Theatre, enjoying the outdoors and wildlife, attending Windsor United Methodist Church, shopping, volunteering, and traveling on the cheap! She does not enjoy laundry, social injustice, environmental destruction, the patriarchy, coffee, soda, kale, or pants. She’s excited and thankful to pursue her calling and bring her child up in this kid friendly town.
