2019 Guide to Halloween Events Around Columbia


It’s fall y’all which means … Halloween time! Check out the great events that the Columbia area has to offer below! From haunted houses to spooky story times, corn mazes and more – there’s something for everyone!

Deceased Farms

Dates: September 13 – November 2, 2019 (limited to weekends and certain days of the week)

Time: 7:30 p.m. (last ticket sold at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday & Halloween, and 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday)

Location: Clinton Sease Farms, 382 Olde Farm Road, Lexington 29072

Cost: Tickets between $18-$22; Fast pass $35; VIP $50 (all tickets cash only, ATM on premises), Group rates available.

Details: Come experience our self guided haunt through 6 terrifying buildings, 3 outdoor zones and 2 acres of creepy corn fields. Deceased Farm begins with a unique, mind-warping trip through a 3D nightmare then be transported to a dark and desolate farm inhabited by unspeakable creatures hoping to make you this year’s harvest! Deceased Farm is an intense haunted attraction and is NOT recommended for children under the age of 12. Deceased Farm does not offer refunds, so make sure your child is mature enough to handle the attraction.

2019 Corn Maze – Farmers Feed Families

Dates: September 20 – November 10, 2019

Times: Fridays 6 – 11 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Sundays 2 – 7 p.m. (last ticket sold one hour before closing)

Cost: $14/person with unlimited hayrides, children 3 and under FREE. Tickets can be purchased up to one hour prior to closing time.

Dark Castle Haunted Attractions

Dates: September 27 – November 2, 2019 (limited to weekends and certain days of the week)

Details: Elgin’s Extreme Haunted Attraction, The Dark Knights Terror Trail is back for 2017! A Spooky hike into the outdoors, as we take you out of your comfort zone and into the woods of our newly enhanced trail… and our very popular Zombie Zone, a Zombie survival scenario where you are put into the middle of the action and combat zombies… but watch out because you never know when one of your friends, may become one of your enemies. We are also offering 5 minute escape rooms this year!

Scarecrows in the Garden

Date: October 1 – 31, 2019

Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Tuesday – Saturday), 1 – 5 p.m. (Sunday)

Location: Gardens of the Robert Mills House, 1616 Blanding Street, Columbia 29201

Cost: FREE!

Details: This free exhibit will feature handcrafted scarecrows made by local families, business, organizations and classrooms. On a stroll through the gardens this fall, you’ll see dozens of ghoulish, historic and colorful scarecrows. There will also be a Trunk or Treat on Oct. 29.

Spooky Crafter Night

Date: October 3, 2019

Time: 6 -7 p.m.

Location: Chapin Branch Library, 129 Columbia Avenue, Chapin 29036

Cost: Free

Details: It’s time to get spooky and carve out some Halloween fun. We’ll make ghostly spirits appear with the help of tin foil and plaster of Paris. Registration required. For more information, call (803) 345-5479.

Witch, Please! A Halloween Launch Party

Date: October 5, 2019

Time: 8 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Location: Bone-In Barbeque, 2180 Boyce Street, Columbia 29201

Cost: Free, but food and spirits are extra

Details: Join us for a Halloween dress rehearsal at Bone-In Barbeque. Party of Some has teamed up with the one venue that does Halloween right. Bone In will be mutating into a Mean Green Mother From Outer Space to help us kick off this bone chilling season. There will be a late night menu, a full bar and the spookiest decorations of the season. Be sure to adorn yourself with your most devilish ensemble for a night that will cast a spell on you!

Spirits Alive at Elmwood Cemetery

Date: October 6, 2019

Time: 6 – 9:30 p.m.

Location: 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia 29201

Cost: Members: $10 adults, $5 youth; Non-members: $15 adults, $7 youth.

Details: Grab your flashlights and join Historic Columbia and Elmwood Cemetery staff for guided tours presenting some of Columbia’s eerie and peculiar past by the light of the moon! Different than the regular monthly tours, Spirits Alive! Cemetery Tours feature costumed tour guides, snacks and other Halloween-related activities.

Halloween Family Fun

Date: October 8, 2019

Time: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Gilbert House of Terror

Dates: October 12 – 31, 2019 (limited to weekends and Halloween)

Time: 7:30 p.m. (Last ticket is sold at 11 p.m.).

Cost: $15 general admission, not recommended for children under 10, cash only

Details: Gilbert House of Terror has terrified those who dare for more than 19 years. Located off the beaten path on the edge of dark woods, Gilbert House of Terror seeks thrill seeking individuals to entertain. If you like to feel your heart racing, if you like to watch your friends shriek in terror, if you like to wonder what’s creeping up behind you, then Gilbert House of Terror is your ticket to entertainment! And if that’s not enough for you, all proceeds are donated to local non-profits including: Palmetto Therapeutic Riding Program, Lexington County Juvenile Arbitration Program, First Calvary Food Pantry, Gilbert Boy Scout Troop 60. Combining dark twists and turns through wickedly designed rooms with horrifying outdoor scenes, our acclaimed crew will do their best to make you scream your most! This haunted attraction includes old school guided haunts with an ever changing atmosphere of terror through 20 or more scenes. Not recommended for scaredy cats or tiny tots.

Salty: Teen Cooking Class

Cost: Free. Registration opens Oct. 2.

Details: Spooky creations that you can eat? Yes, please. Learn some decorating skills that you can share with your friends and family. Menu: Cupcakes – Buttercream Frosting – Assorted Decorations. Note: Waivers must be signed by parent or guardian at the start of the program for participants ages 13 and under. Dietary restrictions and allergies must be addressed before the start of the program. Parents and caregivers must remain in the building for the duration of this program. Books & Beyond: Halloween Adventure

Details: Get ready for the classic, sinister tale that will make your blood run cold! See how the story began back when Count Dracula moved to England in his mad quest for fresh blood and a bride. Chilling adventure lurks…just in time for Halloween! Tickets on sale on Oct. 1 at Seven Oaks Park, Crooked Creek Park and Saluda Shoals Park.

Boo at the Zoo

Dates: October 18 – 30, 2019

Time: 6 – 9 p.m.

Location: Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, 500 Wildlife Parkway, Columbia 29210

Cost: $11 Riverbanks members, $13 general public, children younger than 2 free. Tickets should be purchased in advance. A limited number of tickets available, and most nights will sell out! Any unsold tickets the night of will be $13 at the gate for members and $15 for general public.

Details: Children 12 and under are invited to wear costumes for a spook-fest complete with a trick-or-treat trail (bring your own bag or container for collecting candy), Frankenstein’s foam zone, Mummy’s Eeeky Freaky Dancy party and much more! Bring extra cash to participate in the marshmallow roast, haunted carousel ($2) and spooky spots & stripes railroad ($2).

Pumpkin Patch Express

Date: October 19 and 26, 2019

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (trains leave on the hour)

Location: 110 Industrial Park Road Winnsboro, SC 29180

Cost: 1st Class $20; Coach $15 ages 3 and up

Details: Enjoy South Carolina’s railroad museum and ride the Rockton, Rion and Western Railroad. Ride with us to our magical Pumpkin Patch where children will select a pumpkin to take home and have their picture taken.

Who Lit the Black Flamed Candle?

Date: October 19, 2019

Time: 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Cost: Free

Details: Join us as we make spooky spell books while we watch a Halloween favorite, Hocus Pocus! Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Feel free to come dressed up as your favorite character from the movie. Registration required. You will need a library card to register online. Lake Scare-o-lina

Date: October 20, 2019

Details: Village Church presents a family friendly Fall festival at the Jeep Rogers YMCA in Lake Carolina. The event includes an giant climbing rock wall, old-fashioned carnival games, a hayride, pumpkin patch, cake walk, lots of candy and more! Come dressed in a non-scary costume and enjoy this family event.

Not-So-Spooky Spooktacular

Date: October 24, 2019

Time: 6 – 7 p.m.

Halloween at the Park

Date: October 25, 2019

Time: 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Crooked Creek Park, 1098 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin 29036

Cost: A wristband can be purchased for $5 per child. Concessions will available for purchase.

Details: Bring your little ghosts and goblins trick-or-treating on our outdoor trick-or-treat trail through the park. Inside, enjoy carnival games and prizes, a costume contest, SCREAM contest, and all the family fun you can imagine!

Dracula: Ballet with a Bite

Dates: October 25 – 26, 2019

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Koger Center, 1051 Greene Street, Columbia 29201

Cost: $22 – $54

Details: Blood, fangs, and death are just a few of the the things you will find in this favorite Halloween cult classic. Based on the novel by Bram Stoker, we see Count Dracula continue his seductive reign of terror with his Brides of Darkness in Transylvania. Columbia performance dates for this Halloween “must-see” dance favorite are at the Koger Center on October 25-26 with the annual costume contest during the Saturday performance.

Will O’The Wisp

Details: Enjoy train rides, s’mores, face painting, crafts, the mega maze, the famous Pumpkin Show, amazing animals with Carolina Wildlife, games, and candy! TNT Halloween Party & Trunk or Treat

Details: The Greek Village is open to children from the university family and Columbia community for trick or treating. Chapters put together carnival games such as face painting, cake walks, balloon darts, bounce houses and more to entertain children.

Details: Join Historic Columbia October 29th for a fang-tastic family event! Trunk or Treat offers a twist on traditional Halloween fun for all ages. Community members, local organizations and families will come together in a safe environment with decorated vehicles and trunks filled with candy for trick-or-treating. Don’t forget to knock on the door of the Robert Mills House, too! Kids get to trick or treat at the front and back doors of Robert Mills and enter the candy-corn guessing contest.

Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee

Details: Calling all guys and ghouls! Dress up in your Halloween costume and enjoy a not-so-spooky storytime and craft on our neighborhood patio.The Greek Village is open to children from the university family and Columbia community for trick or treating. Make It, Take It Halloween Crafts

Not-so-Spooky Halloween Stroll

Location: Participating businesses downtown (map provided by the library closer to event date)

Cost: Free

Details: It’s time to trick-or-treat! Dress your family in their costumes and head downtown to celebrate Halloween with a trick-or-treat stroll through the library and to participating organizations downtown. Don’t miss the special Halloween puppet show in the Children’s Room at Richland Library at 3 p.m.

Halloween Hoopla

Date: October 31, 2018

Time: 4 – 8 p.m.

Location: EdVenture Children’s Museum, 211 Gervais St, Columbia 29201

Cost: Tickets are $5 for adults and children are FREE Tickets go on sale for members on Monday, September 23, 2019 and Tuesday, October 1, 2019 for the general public. Ticket holders must adhere to the ratio of no less than one adult for every 5 children.

Details: Spooky fun awaits at EdVenture’s annual Halloween Hoopla celebration! Masks that cover the face are not permitted for those over 13 years of age. More details coming soon!

Halloween in Five Points

Date: October 31, 2019

Time: 5 – 7:30 p.m.

Cost: Free

Details: This Halloween, families are welcome to the Five Points neighborhood for a night full of tricks and treats! Stores will stay open late to hand out sweet treats to all the ghouls and goblins in the neighborhood. Along with neighborhood-wide trick-or-treating from 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., retailers and restaurants will also offer sales, specials, and promotions all day long.

Ghoul’s Night In: Movie and Treats

Date: October 31, 2019

Cost: Free

Details: It’s Halloween in the Teen Center—we’re making gourmet caramel apples and watching our favorite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus. Costumes encouraged!

Tiffany traded in back-to-back business meetings and PowerPoint presentations, for sippy cups and play dates – leaving her corporate job behind to become a stay at home mom to her 16-month-old toddler. To say life is different is an understatement, and she now has a new found love and respect for the “hardest” (and best!) job she’s ever had. A native South Carolinian, Tiffany is best described as kind-hearted and friendly, with a quick sense of humor.
