5 New Romantic Christmas Movies On Netflix

0

‘Tis the season to curl up and watch Christmas movies in your favorite holiday sweater while eating frosted gingerbread cookies and sipping hot cocoa. Christmas movies are such a great way to relax during the holiday season. There’s nothing like losing yourself in the story of a good romance! Christmas movies will melt your heart and leave you sighing at the wonders of love. And what is more romantic than being kissed by a good-looking man under the mistletoe, or being snowed in at a beautiful inn with a handsome stranger?

I have a soft spot in my heart for Christmas movies. As much as I enjoy thrillers and dramas, I do get a craving for a good Christmas romantic comedy. They are wonderful for my spirit, especially during the holidays.  A recent article in the Huffington post titled 55 Funny Tweets About Hallmark Christmas Movies makes fun of these supposedly ‘corny’ and ‘predictable’ movies. But such reviews do not deter me.

As a romantic at heart, I devour Christmas romances with relish, and I absolutely love the story lines. Whether it is a common girl falling in love with a prince during the festive season, or a single mom finding the perfect husband. It could be two bakers vying for the prize at a gingerbread house competition who end up falling in love, or it could be two people who meet at a Christmas party or parade. I love the beautiful backdrop of Christmas lights and decorations. Everybody has a chance at romance. In a season of miracles, hope and cheer, the most romantic time of the year, anything is possible! Love will find you, whether you are looking for it or not!

I really miss the Hallmark channel. We gave it up when we downgraded to fewer channels in order to make our cable subscription more cost effective. However, we do have Netflix and it never disappoints.

Here are five new Christmas romantic comedies released in 2020, available to watch on Netflix.

1. Operation Airdrop

This has been my absolute favorite Christmas movie this season! Erica (who is played by the gorgeous Kat Graham) is a congressional assistant in Washington DC. She is sent to a US Air force base in Guam to investigate its operations and recommend its closure. Andrew (played by Alexander Ludwig) is a handsome and large-hearted Air Force Captain who is assigned the task of showing her around. They start off on the wrong foot but very soon animosity turns into love. The joy on the faces of the children who receive gifts from Operation airdrop will make you teary eyed and remind you that giving brings greater joy than receiving.

2. Holidate

Sloane (played by Emma Roberts) is a young woman living in Chicago who hates the holidays as her mom expects her to bring home a date. Jackson, a young Australian golfer (played by Luke Bracey) breaks off with a girlfriend who is upset that she did not get a nice Christmas gift from him. Sloane and Jackson meet at a store while returning gifts, and they decide to pretend to date each other. The pair has great chemistry, sparks fly, and they fall in love for real! NOTE: This movie has some raunchy comic moments and a rating of TV-MA which means it is intended for mature audiences.

3. The Princess Switch: Switched Again

Margaret Delacourt, the Duchess of Montenaro (played by Vanessa Hudgens) inherits the throne to her home country of Montenaro. As her Christmas coronation approaches, she and Stacy switch places once again so that Margaret can fix her relationship with Stacy’s friend Kevin (played by the handsome Nick Sagar). Margaret and Kevin make a beautiful couple! Meanwhile, there is a third lookalike! Margaret’s cousin, Lady Fiona, disguises herself as Margaret in a plot to steal the throne!

This movie is a sequel to The Princess Switch released in 2018.

4. Midnight at Magnolia

Maggie (played by Natalie Hall) and Jack (played by Evan Williams) are radio DJ’s and friends who pretend to be a couple so that they can engage viewers and get their radio show syndicated. Maggie and Jack have great banter, and they are super cute together. Maggie keeps bringing up Jack’s talent as a singer and then he finally sings on the show. I don’t know about you, but I am such a sucker for romances where the couple fakes being in love but then they do really fall in love!

5. A California Christmas

In this movie, a wealthy man pretends to be a ranch hand so that he can persuade the conscientious owner to sell her land before Christmas. The reel life couple in this charming holiday romance is played by the real life married couple, Lauren and Josh Swikard. A true romance within a romance! It’s a sweet, heart-warming story you won’t want to miss!

While those are my top five favorites from 2020, some of my old favorites include A Christmas Kiss and A Christmas Kiss 2, both available on Amazon Prime. On Netflix, I have enjoyed watching; A Christmas Catch, A Christmas Prince series, Christmas Wedding planner, and many more movies whose stories I remember but titles I forgot!
