8 Favorite Places in Columbia for a Playdate | Columbia SC Moms BlogSo you’ve started to build up your mama tribe and now you’re wondering … what do we do together? Sure, alternating playdates at someone’s home is easy and usually a little more intimate. But you might be looking for some things to do to get you out of the house. Here are some of my favorite places in Columbia to hang out with kids and other mamas.

1. Riverbanks Zoo & Splash Pad

The obvious choice here, but always a winner! There is so much to do and really something for all ages. Even with an infant you can enjoy a walk around the zoo. There’s ziplining,  playgrounds and a carousel, rock climbing, a rope course, plus several food options! You can head to the other side of the property and check out the splash pads at Waterfall Junction (one for littles and one for bigger kids) along with the botanical garden, playhouses, a giant tree house, and a sandbox with a life size replica of a T Rex! Seriously, this place has everything!

2. EdVenture

I had my first play date here recently and was shocked at how much there was to enjoy! Even my 9 month old was able to take advantage of several different areas throughout the museum. Our favorite place was the baby play area in “My Backyard” upstairs!

3. Library

The library is one of our favorite spots for playdates. There are various events planned at different branches … just check out their events calendar at both Richland and Lexington counties. Not into storytime? No worries … there’s lots of kid/baby friendly areas where you and your mom friends can park it while your kids play. I started taking Milo around 6 months old and now it’s one of his favorite places. If you hit up the main branch in Columbia they have an AMAZING café upstairs that I totally recommend for lunch post playdate!

4. Baby Gym

So many options in our area! The best thing is you AND baby get a workout and you might even make some more mom friends while you’re there. I really like that the classes are guided, it takes the guesswork out of what to do while you’re there. Check out what The Little Gym and My Gym have to offer!

5. Columbiana Centre Mall

I’m up for any playdate place where food is an option! Head down to the indoor play area by Build-A-Bear (you’ve been officially warned) and then hit up the food court after for a post play snack and ride on the carousel.

6. Chick-fil-A

The quintessential millennial mom meetup for playdates. Food (check), play place (check), family friendly (check). This is a great option for toddlers and older kids, or if you’re looking for something to do with just your mom friends.

7. Farms

Tons of options, check out this post for more info on how to find a farm near you.  I love that you can take a walk outside, learn about your favorite fruits and veggies, and walk away with some yummy snacks!

8. Discovery Center at the State Museum

I just recently learned about this place and love it! It’s not a huge area, but there is a lot in the room to take advantage of – an awesome indoor treehouse with tire swing, lighted block table, play construction area, letter magnets, foam building blocks and more! It’s a great, enclosed place if you just want to sit back and let the kiddos run around. When we went it was free, but their website says they charge… so you might call ahead to double check.

Where are your favorite places for playdates?
