Columbia Mom EATS :: Black Rooster

One of the things that I love about Columbia is the variety of local restaurants to try. Each has its own charm, theme, and personality. And while I would love to be a food blogger, I think this is as close as I’m going to get! So, here’s to another idea for girl’s night out/date night in Columbia – Black Rooster.

Black Rooster is located in West Columbia. They describe themselves as a “Frenchish” American Bistro. Chef and Restaurateur Kristian Niemi also owns Bourbon in downtown Columbia (another great place to check out if you haven’t already!), Honey River Catering, and F2T Productions (that hosts amazing farm to table dinners).

The restaurant takes both reservations and walk-ins. If there’s a wait, head on up to the roof. They have a rooftop bar that overlooks the Gervais Street Bridge, rivers, and Columbia. Enjoy a drink while waiting for your table downstairs.

I recently went to meet up with friends for happy hour and dinner. They have various happy hour specials and food specials. Wednesdays are usually Wine Wednesdays, where wine bottles are half off. We went on a Tuesday and I had a French 75 based on their daily happy hour cocktails.

The menu offers small plates and entrees, and their specials change depending on what’s local. Everything I have tried has been great, from the Ramen specials to the Steak Frites. I have yet to try their Royale with Cheese, which is touted to be one of the most popular burgers in Columbia. Just gives me another reason to go back soon! This past visit, I had the oysters on the half shell and the Moules Frites (aka mussels and fries) for dinner.

Drinks, dinner, and catching up with friends at this fabulous local spot. What more could you ask for?

You’ll find Black Rooster at:
