Discovering Columbia :: Exploring Five Points

0

I love reading. So when I found out that a brand new independent bookstore that just opened up in Five Points, I knew I had to check it out. Since I was going there anyway, I decided to make a morning of it and explore the shops in the area as well.

Five Points is such an exciting area of Columbia to explore! There are so many fun little boutiques, a few vintage thrift stores, plenty of restaurants with amazing food, coffee shops, the new book store, building murals to admire, and the beautiful fountains. You can’t go wrong spending a day here. Below are the places I explored on my morning in Five Points.

The Fountain

We couldn’t go to Five Points and not stop to admire the fountain on Harden Street, right at the entrance to Five Points. And, since it was close to St. Patrick’s Day when we went, the fountain was dyed green. So fun!

All Good Books

Located at 734 Harden Street, All Good Books is a brand new independent book store. In fact, it just opened the first week of March! It’s so new that as soon as I opened the door, my nose was met with the pleasing aroma of new books! I don’t know about you, but I love that smell!

This lovely book store sells new books of all kinds; children, young adult, fiction, non-fiction, local interest, cookbooks, travel books, gardening, STEM, self-help, and more! And if they don’t have the book you’re looking for, just give them a call and they will order it for you.

All Good Books also boasts a reading room, which includes a community table for book groups. It’s perfect for your next book related gathering! And, while you’re enjoying this comfortable space, be sure to partake of one of the book shops delicious treats, with some coffee, tea, beer, or wine. In addition, be sure to check the events page on their website for upcoming events.

Gibson’s

Established in 1955, Gibson’s is an adorable stationary and gift shop nestled in the heart of Five Points. They offer gifts for all ages, from adorable baby clothing to jewelry, books, candles, cards, tea sets, and so much more! Since they are part stationary store, they also offer a wide variety of different types of stationary and wedding invitations, and they can special order these items for you as well.

Revente

Revente is one of Columbia’s top upscale consignment shops. They sell women’s boutique and designer clothing, shoes, and accessories on consignment, but also sell items they find in NYC. And, since it’s a consignment shop, you can bring in your own items to consign with them. Just make sure you check out the consignment rules first. If you’re looking for beautiful designer clothes at an affordable price, Revente is your place!

2G’s Clothing

When I walked into 2G’s Clothing, I knew it was something special. This fun shop sells women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories. They had so many beautiful and unique items that I had never seen before at other stores. It was so fun to browse the shop and see what treasures I could find!

A Little Happy Shop

I first learned about A Little Happy Shop from a friend. I started following the store on Instagram, and instantly fell in love. While I had all intentions of visiting the shop in person, it never happened until this trip to Five Points. But, as soon as I stepped through the door, this shop definitely made me happy! It was all I had hoped it would be.

A Little Happy Shop boasts so many fun items that will truly make you happy! They carry all types of accessories, to specialized napkins and stationary, colorful pens and markers, adorable jewelry, funny cards and coasters, kitschy games and magnets, key chains, kitchen towels, candles, coloring books (including Harry Styles and Taylor Swift coloring books), lotion, body glitter, and SO. MUCH. MORE. It’s such a fun store! I definitely spent some money here!

The other thing I liked about A Little Happy Shop is that they support local artists. On the day I was there, local artist Kayla Balderson was at the shop selling her beautiful paper mache artwork and Easter items. Check out Kayla’s beautiful creations on Instagram. You won’t regret it.

Sunrise Artisan Bath & Body

This store was such a treat! Sunrise Artisan Bath & Body is the perfect store for everyone who loves handmade soaps, lotions, body scrub, bath bombs, body wash, and the like. The atmosphere is bright and cheery, and full of beautiful scents and products. Everything in the store is hand crafted and made by the owners. And, they don’t just make your typical scents like lavender and eucalyptus mint, they also make unique and scents like Hippie Chic, Agave Nectar, Black Sea, J’Adore Paris, Arizona Cactus, and Clean Cotton. My favorites are Agave Nector and Black Sea (which I purchased as bar soap and body scrub).

Another fantastic feature of Sunrise is that they also sell coffee and a variety of cold drinks. There is a cozy seating area at the back of the store where you can sit and sip your coffee while enjoying the beautiful artwork displayed on the wall, and all the artwork is made by local artists. Nothing like supporting the community!

Those are all of the places I visited on my trip. Each one was special and unique and boasted welcoming atmospheres and friendly employees. But Five Points is home to so many more wonderful shops and restaurants as well.
