It’s that season where people are thinking about summer and swim lessons are in demand! The weather is about to turn hot, the kids are almost out of school and will be begging for something to do, and you want them to learn that all-important life skill of swimming (and to get out of the house too). The Columbia area has you covered whether you want your baby to brave the waters or your older child to learn some advanced strokes.

Harbison Community Center

The Harbison Community Center offers classes for 6 months to adult (at all swim levels) January through August in the mornings or afternoons (details on dates and times).

Little Loggerheads Swim School

Little Loggerheads offers aquatic survival swim lessons for children 8 months to 4 years old in West Columbia. They are passionate about drowning prevention. Their lessons are another layer of safety for your child around water but do not take precedence over watchful eyes whenever your child is near water.

Palmetto Athletic Center

The Palmetto Athletic Center (PAC) is a child care facility offering a variety of classes to keep kids active. The facility is located at 1193 North Lake Drive in Lexington. They provide swim lessons for ages 18 months to 9 years old at the beginning and intermediate levels. Classes are offered April through June.

Palmetto Swim School

Palmetto Swim School is a branch of Palmetto Aquatics, offering private swim lessons at an outdoor pool in Forest Acres/downtown Columbia for children beginning at 24 months. Sessions are offered Monday through Thursday from April to the beginning of August.

SWIM Columbia

SWIM Columbia offers private instruction and semi-private instruction, adapting teaching to fit each child’s learning style and individual needs. Instructors work on developing and strengthening swimming and water safety skills for infants and children. Depending on age and skill level, private or semi-private lessons are available at your home or the home of the instructor(s).

Swim Lessons Company

The Swim Lessons Company offers group classes in Lexington and Northeast Columbia. They offer Parent and Tot classes for ages 12 to 36 months, and they also offer lessons for children and adults at all swim levels.

Waves Swim School

Waves Swim School outsources certified swim instructors to meet you in your area for private, one-on-one lessons. They serve the Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, and Chapin areas. Their instructors travel to backyard and neighborhood pools, and they also have a selection of indoor and outdoor pools in the Columbia area in which they teach.

YMCA

The YMCA offers group and private swim lessons at their Jeep Rogers (Northeast) and Northwest (Irmo) locations. They offer group swim lessons for ages 6 months to adults on weekdays and on Saturdays from April to December.

Visit their website for more information about lessons at your local branch and register online. You do not have to be a member of the YMCA to participate, but members do receive a discounted rate.

  1. Hi Can we please update the description for Palmetto Athletic Center? We are not a family fitness facility. We are a child care facility offering a variety of classes to keep kids active. Our swim lessons are offered from April until August. Registration is open on line at PAClexSC.com Thanks!!
