I’m on a Binge!

These days, I'm finding it easier to get sucked into TV shows and binge them from beginning to end. It's my current guilty pleasure.

In March, I would never have guessed that we would still be dealing with this pandemic in November. Maybe my science-fiction loving brain thinks that it will work out like it does on the big screen. Movies solve pandemics in an hour and a half, right? I know that is totally unrealistic, but wishful thinking.

Working and virtual learning has fostered a new hobby for me. I haven’t decided if it’s healthy or not yet. Since I love it so much, I won’t dive too deep into finding the answer for that question.

Hello, I’m Ronisha, and I have a new love for binge watching.

Sure, I have had Netflix and Hulu accounts for years. I clipped the cable cord long ago. As a single mother working full-time, I guess I never found time to just sit and watch TV for hours. I know, I know, I need to limit screen time. But what’s a girl to do when the show is just that good? Or maybe I should say that interesting? Some of the shows have been complete trash, but once I’m dedicated I have to see it through.

I didn’t mean to become a lover of binge watching. It was an accident.

Once my daughter got the hang of doing her virtual schooling on her own, I needed background noise. I turned on the television and started a show. The rest is history!

Finding a healthy way to reset or decompress is really good for your mental health. This just so happens to be my way of relaxing for the moment.

So, what shows am I binging right now?

I’ll give you my Netflix list but please don’t judge me too harshly! The first three on this list came as a recommendation when I needed something to take my mind off of other things. They are continuations and some of the seasons have over 20 episodes!

Vampire Diaries
The Originals
Legacies
Girlfriends
Shameless
Workin’ Moms
Dead to Me
Stranger Things
Ozark
Self-Made

I’ve also adapted to making a snack when I’m able to curl up on the couch to binge these shows. My go to has been charcuterie plates (because a board would be ridiculous, right?). I am also a fan of popcorn. I found this neat little silicone microwave popcorn popper that makes it so easy to enjoy popcorn any way you like it (butter, seasonings, etc.) – my favorite is a little popcorn oil and a sprinkling of garlic and herb Old Bay.

What have been some of the ways you found to take a break from your regular day to day activities? Are there any shows you like to binge?
