After nearly one year of construction, Richland Library has added a new location to the Edgewood community. On Saturday, December 15, staff held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and invited the community to take a look at the state-of-the-art facility, which transformed from an Old Dollar General into a new library.
The nearly 7,500 square-foot structure, located at 2101 Oak Street, offers customers the following, enhanced spaces:
- ORAL HISTORY RECORDING ROOM: Use your voice to help capture the history of our community. Ask a staff member to get started.
- MAKERSPACE: Tinker, experiment and create with tools in both guided and open-lab sessions.
- MEETING SPACES: Learn, create and share in flexible spaces that support community collaboration, small group discussions and more.
- CHILDREN’S AREA: Inspire lifelong learning, get your kids ready for kindergarten or build reading muscles in our new Children’s Area. Explore our cozy story room and tinkering space.
- COURTYARD: Step outside and enjoy the fresh air without leaving the library.
The upgrades are part of the more than $2 million project that was planned for the Edgewood location. It was made possible, thanks to funding from Richland County Council, the sale of the former Richland Library Sandhills building and a fundraising campaign by the Richland Library Friends and Foundation.
