I told you recently about my adventures in taking out artificial coloring from my middle son’s diet. There’s been another another benefit after taking out the crap: I can finally take him to the library.
Before, when I would take my kids to the Lexington library, Wyatt, who’s 3, would just spend the entire time running around the entire building (including the stairs). I just made the decision to never visit with him.
But after my post about our success, the light bulb came on: “Maybe I can go to the library now!” So, we went. And it was a success. He ventured away from me some, but it was typical 3-year-old exploring, not a chaotic, uncontrollable sprinter.
And I found a hilarious book that may help me with potty training. I plan on potty training Wyatt when his big brother starts kindergarten later this month (eeek, kindergarten!!!!), so I got the book On Top of the Potty and Other Get-Up-And-Go Songs by Alan Katz and David Catrow. I didn’t go there looking for it, I just saw it while we were there.
It’s a book of songs about going potty, set to the tune of popular children’s songs. Some of the songs I am not familiar with, but the ones I was able to sing are HILARIOUS. I just had to share them with my favorite moms!
Here are my top 3 songs in the book:
3. Tinkle, Tinkle on the Floor
(to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)
Tinkle, tinkle on the floor.
That’s what Bob did till age four.
And he pooped on the den chair,
On the couch, or anywhere.
He’d poop on your welcome mat,
On your swing, or on your cat.
Bob’s mom said, “Please try the bowl.
Potty using is your goal.”
Bob tried, and real soon he knew
Potty sitting’s fun to do.
As for tinkle on the floor,
Bob won’t do that anymore!
2. If You Gotta Go Do Poopy
(to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”)
If you gotta go do poopy
Please don’t wait.
If ya gotta go do poopy
Potty’s great.
Uncle Sidney and Aunt Dotty
Always always use the potty,
Although not at the same time;
They alternate!
If you gotta go do pee-pee
Potty-chair.
If ya gotta go do pee-pee
Potty’s there.
You will get real good with practice,
And the happy happy fact is
You can trade your diapers in for
Underwear!
And my top favorite:
1. Go Do Poop in the Toilet
(to the tune of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”)
Go do poop in the toilet,
Go do pee in the bowl.
Don’t have to wait till the whole thing’s filled.
Just go a little, we’ll all be so thrilled.
So please poop poop poop when you feel it.
Just sit and let pee-pee flow.
You’re so big
And the potty is
Where all big kids go!
Go and try when you’re ready.
Sit whenever you’re set.
Do a whole pail full, or just a cup,
And if you spill some, we’ll clean it right up.
Hey, it’s not a race, so don’t worry,
Just take as long as you need.
And you’ll feel so good when you get to say,
“Look, I peed!”
So, not only did taking artificial coloring of our diets give me a better behaved 3-year-old and my library trips back, it also gave me these filthy songs. I hope you enjoyed them enough to check out the book.
What worked for YOU when trying to potty train your little one?
