The South Carolina State Museum is celebrating Spring Break from April 4 – 16 with 50% off general admission for kids aged 12 and under. Plus, guests can enjoy a brand-new line-up of exciting planetarium and 4D theater shows and a new exhibition.
Now showing at the museum, James Webb Space Telescope: The Story Unfolds is a new planetarium experience exploring the furthest reaches of the universe through the lens of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the most powerful telescope ever built. Guests are invited to see stunning details of dying stars, colliding galaxies and strange worlds displayed in the museum’s 55-foot digital dome planetarium.
“If you thought Webb’s images looked amazing enough on a mobile device or computer screen, imagine being immersed in them as they fill the dome above you,” says Planetarium Manager Liz Klimek.
Developed by the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL, this 42-minute live, interactive show not only features these groundbreaking images in brilliant 4K resolution but also highlights the incredible, complex science behind the James Webb mission. The State Museum is only one of two locations in the United States selected by U.S. Space & Rocket Center to currently offer this one-of-kind experience.
Guests of all ages are also invited to enjoy DC League of Super-Pets: 4D Experience, a new film filled with immersive special effects and 3D visuals. Showing daily, this wildly funny 4D experience features the crime-fighting DC Super-Pets, including Krypto the Super-Dog and Ace the Bat-Hound, working together to save Superman and the Justice League from Lex Luther and his villainous guinea pig, Lulu.
While visiting the State Museum this spring, baseball fans and guests are encouraged to explore The 521 All-Stars: A Championship Story of Baseball and Community, the museum’s newest photography exhibition highlighting a Black baseball team from Rembert, SC and the community who supported them. Hungry guests can also stop by the Crescent Café by the Food Academy located on the museum’s second floor and enjoy a delicious selection of foods, snacks and sweet treats. The café will be open Tues. – Sat. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
General admission to the South Carolina State Museum is $8.95 for adults, $7.95 for Seniors, and kids aged 3-12 are regularly $6.95 ($3.45 with 50% off discount). Infants 2 and under are free. Planetarium and 4D theater show tickets are an additional charge. The museum is open Tues. – Sat. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sun. from 12 – 5 p.m. Please note: the State Museum will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 9.
