The Biltmore Estate :: A Historic Adventure for the Whole Family

Want to have a unique, learning experience with your family?! The Biltmore Estate is exploding with rich history, gorgeous landscapes and things to do! The best part is… it is only two hours from Columbia making for a completely do-able day trip of excitement and captivating history.

I recently took my 5-year-old son and he keeps asking to go back. He absolutely loved exploring the stunning gardens and the breathtaking conservatory. I was actually quite surprised how interested he was in the tour of the luxurious house. He seemed most impressed by the massive fireplaces, grand stairways, the indoor pool and the winding corridors.

What is the Biltmore Estate?

The Biltmore is the luxurious home of George and Edith Vanderbilt completed in 1895 nestled in the beautiful Asheville area. The floorplan contains over four acres of space including 35 bedrooms, 45 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces and loads of other unique entertaining spaces which is a marvel of elegance! The house is surrounded by over 100 acres of rolling hills, gardens, pools, pathways and simply gorgeous landscape views. It truly is amazing to behold.

Things To Do

When you purchase tickets to the Biltmore, you get to tour the Biltmore house, next to the house there are coffee shops, restaurants, shopping and more. You can explore the grounds with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. The conservatory is a sight to behold and the kids will love it. Gorgeous plants are hanging everywhere the eye can see. There are also places to stop and grab a snack, wine or beverages, allowing you to take a break and enjoy the scenery.

Antler Hill Village and Winery

After your tour of the house and grounds, its time to move on to the Antler Hill Village and Winery. Depending on the tickets you purchase you most likely get a free wine tasting at the Biltmore Winery! This is an adventure in itself and a great chance for us parents to unwind, shop tasty wine and walk around the winery.

The kids will enjoy the stone tunnel and things move relatively quickly so it shouldn’t take terribly long if you have little ones with you. Around the winery you will find more shopping opportunities and restaurants, even places to stay if you choose to make the Biltmore Estate a weekend destination. There is also a barn, farmyard and playground where kids can play and pet the goats, chickens and more!
