Toddler Approved Christmas Crafts

So far this year, winter weather has been just as unpredictable as usual. One day it’s sunny and the next the temperature drops and it rains. With a two year old at home, it can be hard to plan out our activities from day to day. We might think we’ll get to go to the park, but it will start raining or something else will come up that will keep us at home.

For times like these, I need to have exciting activities to throw together that don’t take a lot of effort or money. As the holidays approach, I put together some easy crafts for my daughter that she ended up really loving. I hope your toddler enjoys them too!

1. Christmas Tree Decorating

This one is so simple! Just cut a piece of green construction paper into the shape of a Christmas tree and get some stickers. They can be simple dot stickers or any other stickers you have laying around. Then, let your child have at it! They can decorate their Christmas tree with stickers to their little heart’s content.

My daughter is currently obsessed with stickers and decorating trees, so this was the perfect activity for her. It only took about ten minutes for her to run out of stickers but she loved it nonetheless. This could be great for younger toddlers just learning the skill of peeling and sticking.

2. Snow Scenes

For this craft you’ll need a piece of blue construction paper, cotton balls, and glue. You could also use a white crayon to draw snowflakes on the paper. Since SC doesn’t get a lot of snow, we decided to imagine our own snow scene. Gluing the cotton balls to the paper is a simple task, but kids will love using their imagination nonetheless.

3. Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes

The materials needed for this craft are pipe cleaners and beads. That’s it! All you have to do is twist the pipe cleaners together and thread the beads over them. Red and white beads that coordinate will make this candy cane look super! You could also use any combination of colors for the beads. Let the kids decide! This makes a great ornament or just a fun easy craft for young kids. Just make sure to keep an eye on those beads so nobody tries to eat them.

4. Creating Christmas/Holiday Cards

This super easy activity just requires white paper and crayons, markers, or colored pencils. Fold the paper like a card and write your holiday message across the front. Then it’s up to the kids to decorate them and give them color. Make several to drop off at friends’ houses for the holiday season.

Crafting with kids doesn’t have to take a lot of effort, and it certainly doesn’t have to be expensive. It can be intimidating if we see elaborate crafts and activities all over the internet, but kids enjoy simple tasks just as much. Remember, you don’t have to be a crafting expert to put together an activity for kids. As long as they’re having fun, call it a success!

What are some of your go to Christmas craft ideas?
