Report Card Freebies

Report Card Freebies | Columbia SC Moms Blog

It’s that time again for many Midlands students and we’re wondering –  do you reward good grades at your house? We don’t usually, but we do head to Krispy Kreme, with that special print out in hand, to take advantage of their freebies. It’s true! For every “A” on that card, your child can get one glazed doughnut. There’s a limit of six doughnuts, but that’s plenty enough to cover the momma tax and my boy still have a belly full to enjoy.

Imagine our disappointment when we walked in to Krispy Kreme earlier this year, proudly carrying a middle school report card for the first time, and found that he had aged out. This momma had to fumble through her purse for enough for a few hot ones because Krispy Kreme freebies only last through fifth grade.

I’m going to confess to you that I made a stink, in the parking lot, on Facebook. I mocked the age limit on report card freebies and went as far as declaring that graduate students ought to get a free one if they had proof of an excellent grade.

But today I am apologizing to Krispy Kreme.

Why? Because I’ve checked with a few places and there are not a lot of franchises that still reward good grades. There are quite a few franchises that get some major internet blogging press about their freebies, but you best actually contact your specific location before you go waltzing in without some money. Many will tell you –

“We don’t participate in that program right now.”

I was most excited about a Melting Pot promotion for middle school and high schoolers that I read about on multiple blogs! But, upon telephoning, I was told that “our location does not participate.” By this time, I was not surprised. I was actually expecting the bad news. I was actually thinking that for one of their meals, someone might actually try to forge a report card … imagine it.

Local MOM Caught! Craft room filled with paper donut hats and counterfeit report cards…

My boy legitimately earned at least 100 free doughnuts from Krispy Kreme (and shared over half of them!) and I want to send out a huge thank you. Way to support our community, Krispy Kreme! I’m still a loyal customer.

Who else out there is still recognizing good students???

I’ve personally verified that Be Beep, a toy shop gives $5 gift cards. Go in within three days of getting those grades, please!

And Sweet Pea’s Ice Cream and Cafe says, “Bring in a report card that you are proud of and get a free scoop with a regular purchase.”

Tell us if your favorite places participate in REPORT CARD FREEBIES…

Melanie McGehee
Melanie McGehee never knew she wanted to be a mom. Even marriage caught her somewhat by surprise, in spite of the fact that she met husband Andy through a matchmaking service. She thanked eharmony by writing about that experience for an anthology, A Cup of Comfort for Women in Love. Almost two years to the day after marrying him, she stared at two pink lines and wondered aloud, “Is this okay?” His response, “Kind of late to be asking that now.” It was a bit late – in life. But at the advanced maternal age of 35, she delivered by surprise at 35 weeks and an emergency C-section, a healthy baby boy. Ian, like Melanie, is an only child. She’s written much about him during her years with the blog, but he’s now a teenager. Please, don’t do the math. It’s true. Momming in middle age is the best!
